What does it look like to start serving at Golden Hills?
Ministries
Awana-
Awana is taken from 2 Tim 2:15 and stands for “Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed.” It is a Christ-centered program designed to help parents in the spiritual development of their children. Awana combines fun and exciting weekly meetings with solid biblical instruction with a particular focus on studying and memorizing God’s word. The Gospel is presented throughout the teaching and curriculum. We offer Awana to 3-year-olds through 5th graders and meet on Wednesday nights throughout the school year.
Sunday School-
Sunday School is a place for kids to experience age-appropriate biblical teaching and engaging activities. We offer Sunday School at 8:30am for ages Walkers through Kindergarten in the W building. For our 10:30am service, we have classes for infants through two-year-olds in the W building and three-year-old to 5th grade in the E building. Each classroom is staffed by two interviewed and background-checked adults. If you are visiting for the first time, please arrive 15 minutes before classes start so we can register your family for our secure pick-up system.
VBS
Vacation Bible School (VBS for short) is an annual week-long event held each summer for kids in our community to learn about the gospel through creative mediums. These include live skits, singing songs, making crafts, eating snacks, and enjoying recreation with friends.
Special Needs
This is a ministry for elementary-aged children to have a buddy accompany them in their Sunday school class.
Caring Hands
Caring for children during events and meetings the parents will be attending.
Dallas Ranch Middle School
Serving students and their families by offering academic support; responding to other needs as they arise.
Juvenile Hall in Martinez/Partnering with the Bay Area Chaplains
Providing spiritual guidance and bringing support, counseling, and mentorship to the youth together with the Chaplaincy and Probation staff at Juvenile Hall in Martinez.
Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa
Serving meals to the homeless; assisting the Head Chef prepare meals in the Central Kitchen; grocery deliveries
Options Health
Providing loving support to women who choose to carry their babies to full term. This includes throwing baby showers, managing wish lists, etc.
Safe Refuge
Serving as a host family to provide safe and healthy homes for children of families in crisis. And/or serving as part of the Circle of Friends, who provide necessary support and encouragement to host families, including: helping with transportation, meals, babysitting, tutoring, etc.
Baby Boomers Helpers at GHCC
Providing loving support to our own older population in need at GHCC.
Women’s Bible Studies

Simply Women
At Simply Women, we meet on a Friday evening in a relaxed setting to learn from God’s Word, build relationships, and get equipped to be ministers of reconciliation.
The Gathering
At this workshop-style gathering, we explore how to live out the implications of the gospel, so that we would treasure Christ more, cultivate a gospel community, and stir one another to love and good works.
Christmas Gathering
The Christmas Gathering in December brings church women and the community together to celebrate Jesus’ coming, and to enjoy the fellowship that comes with being united to him and his diverse family.
Moms Growing Together
Moms Growing Together is a community of moms raising kids of all ages. Our mission is to walk alongside moms as we grow together in our love and understanding of Jesus, encouraging one another in motherhood and life and becoming better equipped to teach and nurture our children toward godliness. All moms from Golden Hills and the surrounding area are welcome!
Adult Bible Study Groups
Multiple Bible studies meet at various times weekly. Facilitators of Bible studies have the responsibility to lead a discussion-oriented study in God’s word that creates an atmosphere where people know they are loved and free to be open and honest.
Bistro
The Bistro is open to guests daily and offers a safe place to relax and enjoy complimentary coffee and reduced-priced snacks. The Bistro team displays radical hospitality, friendliness, warmth, and kindness to all people.
Brown Bag Ministry
The Community Outreach Center, in conjunction with the Contra Costa Food Bank, gives groceries to elderly and low-income qualifying residents of Antioch. This team is responsible for setting up, filling grocery bags, talking to guests, carrying bags to the car, and helping clean up.
Children’s Teacher
During the Mon-Wed evening service, children ages 4-16 engage in a Bible-focused class using an established curriculum. A teacher for our children’s ministry will lovingly introduce the gospel to help each child understand the relevancy of scripture and create opportunities for them to be a relationship with Christ.
Children’s Helper
The Children’s ministry helper will support the teaching of the classroom by being ready to serve the teacher and children in any way needed.
Van Drive for Kids
The vans go out within a two-mile radius of the COC to bring kids to Children’s Ministry. The van driver is responsible for ensuring children are picked up and dropped off safely.
Van Chaperone
Supports the van ministry by being ready to serve the driver and children in any way needed. They maintain order in the van by being watchful and diligent and enforcing discipline when appropriate.
Dinner Friends
Dinner Friends sit with guests during evening worship service and dinner. Their purpose is to befriend those who attend the service and mealtime, to listen, earn trust, and the right to encourage someone irrespective of their circumstances.
Greeters
Greeters cheerfully welcome everyone who comes to the center during the evening.
Kitchen
The kitchen team prepares and serves dinner to our evening guests.
Resource and Referral
The Resources and Referral Team helps in practical ways to encourage people to move forward with purpose in life. This team helps guests write resumes, complete job applications, find housing, and connect with available resources in the community.
Site Safety Team
Provides a watchful presence during scheduled programs. The site safety team is discretely vigilant to all activities involving both adults and children.
Speaker Team
Responsible for presenting God’s word to our guests in ways that point people to Jesus and strengthen those who know Him as the Lord of their lives.
Visitation Team
Visit people connected with the COC and others in our local community. Their purpose is to be God’s hands extended by listening well and being available to share the love of Christ.
Music Team
The Music Team leads adults in worship through music, singing, drama, dance, etc… Their purpose is to lift the name of Jesus, worship Him, and encourage adults to focus on Him and learn to express their appreciation of Him through song.
Musicians
Ability to play a musical instrument in a worship environment.
Singers
Ability to sing lead or background vocals in a worship environment.
Choir
Able to sing harmony with other choir members in a worship environment.
Tech Team
The Tech Team aims to lead the congregation in worship through technical skills, presenting in a way that is beautiful and enhances the gospel
Connecting Point
Welcomes new people and assists them as needed. Answer questions and show them how to get where they want to go. Start building relationships. Contact point for Small Group information and how to communicate within the church.
Greeters
Greet people from assigned greeter stations as they come into the church. Verbal greeting with big smiles, hugs, handshakes, fist bumps, etc. as appropriate.
Ushers
Greet people as the enter the sanctuary and assist them with finding appropriate seating. Various other responsibilities include serving communion, taking the offering, and giving extra assistance as needed with special attention to elderly and/or handicapped people.
Plaza Greeters
Greet people on the plaza and assist them in getting wherever they need to go. Need to be warm, friendly, and comfortable speaking with new people.
Info Booth
Greet people as they approach the Information Desk. Answer questions, dispense church printed materials and clipboards, answer phone calls, maintain lost and found, hand out audio aids as needed, use radio set to communicate with pastors and facilities personnel as needed.
Safety-Medical Team
Wear a radio headset and be available to assist with any medical situation that arises. Training not provided, so qualifications need to already be in place. Annual CPR/AED training updates are provided by GHCC as determined by Team Lead. May include hours outside of Sundays, if you are available.
Safety-Security Team
Available to assist with the security needs of the church. Monitors activity, observe everyone as they come and go, monitor the church buildings, grounds, and parking lots, watch for potentially dangerous situations. Training not provided so qualifications need to already be in place. May include hours outside of Sundays, if you are available.
Bistro
Various responsibilities in the Hebrews Cafe. Early morning set up, make coffee. Fill coffee pots, refill cups and coffee supplies, counter sales, help with inventory, money handling, and closing duties.
Next Steps
Help people find the right place for them to serve. Includes initiating relationships, coaching, teaching, phoning people, administrative duties, and using church database. May include some relationship work outside of Sunday mornings.
Newcomer Connection
Make follow up phone calls to guests who have expressed an interest in our church. Knowledge of GHCC and good verbal skills needed.
