The Gathering: Idols of the Heart

“For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.” —1 John 2:16.
So much in this world competes for our hearts and attention, gradually pulling us away from our love for God. Scripture warns us not to allow idols to take residence in our hearts. Jeremiah 17:9 reminds us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick.” Yet God does not abandon us; He promises, “I the LORD search the heart and test the mind.” (Jeremiah 17:10). While the Israelites worshiped carved images, many of us today struggle with hidden idols such as approval, comfort, control, security, achievement, relationships, and other worldly desires. Ladies, join us as we uncover these idols, discover through Scripture how to turn from them, and draw closer to Christ.
