Your Recovery Journey begins here...

NEWCOMER PHASE

What is the Newcomer Phase? If you’re unsure of where your struggle lies or wondering how to identify and work on your issues, this phase gets you started in a healthy way. Recovery work is challenging; sometimes even considering recovery work is challenging; congratulations on your first step.

Groups Offered:

Newcomer Orientation This co-ed meeting on your first night at New Hope is designed to help you choose the small group that best fits your needs. Ask whatever questions you have about recovery and we’ll do our best to help you understand our program.

Recovery 101 (Basic Recovery Principles) In this co-ed group we will go deeper into our understanding of the basic tools necessary to start your recovery journey. This group will help you gain a general understanding of how the 12 Steps work and how they were originally written from the Bible. The group lasts for 12 weeks but you can come in and out at any time. We will also help you determine your next step.


DISCOVERY PHASE

What is the Discovery Phase After gaining a basic idea of our Recovery Program and what we offer, this phase on your journey provides small groups to help you work on specific recovery issues. Open sharing is encouraged; each group is facilitated by a peer who has attended the required facilitator training. Men and women have separate meetings.

Groups Offered:

Codependency This group uses Dr. Cloud and Dr. Townsend DVD Book Series addressing specific codependent issues such as living life out of control, allowing people to take advantage of us, hiding from true intimacy and having trouble saying no. We are an open-share group.

Substance Abuse This group discusses a weekly topic dealing with the area of alcoholism and/or drug addiction. The group will help you identify whether or not you truly are an addict and what your next steps are toward healing.

Anger Management This is a class specifically for those who are dealing with anger issues. We are currently working in the Anger Workbook. We are an open share group. Through sharing and with God, you can find your healing.

Women-Specific Groups Offered:

Eating Disorders Lose It for Life is a Christ centered study/support group that was introduced by Steve Arturburn with New Life Ministries. It was designed to help those who are struggling with food additions. This class watches a DVD each week and works through a workbook.

Women Betrayed* If you have felt the pain of betrayal due to a man’s sexual impurity, this ministry may be what you’ve long for. This confidential study will be facilitated by women whose lives and marriages have been devastated by this situation but who traded brokenness for healing by God’s power and grace.

Men-Specific Groups Offered:

Sexual Purity This group is the first step in helping men find freedom from inappropriate sexual behavior. You will have a chance to share our journey with others and learn the signs of sexual addiction. This group uses the book Pure Desire.


COMMITMENT PHASE

What is the Commitment Phase After you have recognized and acknowledged your recovery challenges, and after you’ve gained some knowledge of what you’re up against, the commitment phase offers you more in-depth study through the “12 steps” and possibilities for growth and healing. In this upper level group, a strong sense of commitment is necessary; attendance is required. Obtaining a sponsor in this phase is critical.
Sponsorship: The primary purpose of a New Hope Sponsor is to help someone through the 12-Steps. New Hope Sponsors help people learn how to relate to others, to themselves, and to God. Sponsors help others recognize how denial keeps them from discovering the truth about themselves and helps them identify their fears and resentments, as well as their self-defeating and addictive behavior.

Women's Groups Offered:

12 Step “A Spiritual Journey” This group is designed to help lead each of us out of our pattern of self-destructive behavior. By restoring hope in a Christ-centered way, we learn how He desires to heal our hurts, habits and hang-ups. Making connections in a group is a positive way of nurturing each other to give as well as receive. The workbook provides an overview of each step as well as several scriptures worked in with the questions to be answered. We require everyone coming to our group to have a workbook and a desire to be involved with other women committed to work through the questions for each step.

12 Steps “Life Recovery” This group is going to walk through the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (Big Book) while using the Holy Bible. In this group we will be talking about each step of the process and give you a chance to work alongside a sponsor. Regular attendance is required in our group and a commitment to working the steps is necessary for true healing.

Men's Groups Offered:

SERVICE PHASE

Volunteer on Service Team

What service opportunities are available? Service Opportunities Every person who would want to serve in this way would have to speak to Pastor Matt Pierce first . A phone interview can be set up by calling Sally at #163.

Set-up info tables, book tables, etc
Setup MPR floor
Welcome Team for Friday Night Recovery Meeting (Fri 7pm-8:15pm)
Greet people as they come in to New Hope
Help seat people during worship
Help with weekly offering baskets
Help people find groups at the break
Sell books and keep inventory at Book Table
Security (patrol halls and church grounds, be available for emergencies)
Assist with set-up of Café Divine
Café Divine ( Fri 9pm-10:15pm)
Monitor Door
Cooking, serving, cleaning
Pray during Café Divine
Take-down and clean-up
Worship (Fri 6pm-8:15pm)
Every person who would want to be on the worship team or be a part of the Audio Visual Team would be interviewed and approved by Chris Dunbar also. An appointment can be set-up by calling Sally at Ext. 163.
Other Tasks:
Maintain kitchen inventory supplies (weekly)
Birthday chip set-up and inventory (monthly)
Communion set-up and inventory (quarterly)

Leadership Development

What is Leadership Development? Weekly meeting on Fridays to review guidelines, to promote group community, to learn helpful techniques in conducting groups and to participate in a level of accountability.

8 hour training seminar in Spring and in Fall to encourage facilitators, our group leaders, in their own recovery and in their ministry to others in New Hope. The day is usually devoted to a specific aspect of our program.

There are also high-level accountability groups. These small groups of leaders meet weekly and share a high level of commitment & accountability to one another and to their own continued recovery.

9:00 Café Divine This is a social time to have coffee and snacks with others in New Hope. Here you can relax, get acquainted, and learn more about the groups in an informal setting.

 

MID-WEEK SCHEDULE

Divorce Care Divorce Care is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. If you know someone going through a divorce, make sure they know about DivorceCare.

GriefShare This group of people understands what it is like to experience the death of a loved one and wants to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time. The video-series lasts 13 weeks and each week is “self-contained” so you do not have to attend in sequence.

Childcare is available during New Hope meetings

Childcare is available for infants and children through 11 yrs old. Call Cher at x 120 to make reservation.
Childcare costs us between $6 and $8 per hour/per child. Please help offset the costs by making an appropriate contribution when using childcare. Thank you!

From no hope to New Hope…

That’s the path of recovery we believe Jesus wants all of us to move along. Our desire is to make New Hope a safe place where you can experience the healing presence of Jesus Christ.
